Heal Varicose Veins Naturally

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How to naturally get rid of spider veins?
I am in my early thirties and have spider veins popping up all over my legs .I have tried increasing exercise and tried using vitamin K serum and using herbs nothing seems to work.

    • ANSWER:
Beyond what you say you have already tried, here are a few other suggestions you might consider:

      - Control your weight and the external weight you put on your legs, (ie. children sitting on your lap) Avoid placing too much pressure on your legs.

      - Don’t cross your legs for long periods of time when sitting. It’s possible to injure your legs that way, and even a minor injury can increase the risk of spider veins or even varicose veins.
      - Elevate your legs when resting, as much as possible. Try laying on the floor in the evenings, with your legs up on the sofa or a chair (above heart level) for 30 - 45 minutes each night.
      - Don’t stand or sit for extended periods of time. If you must stand for a long time, shift your weight from one leg to the other every few minutes. If you must sit for long periods of time, stand up and move around or take a short walk every 20 - 30 minutes.
      - Avoid wearing high heels for long periods of time. Lower-heeled shoes can help tone your calf muscles to help blood move through your veins.

      - Eat a low-salt diet rich in high-fiber foods. Eating fiber reduces the chances of constipation, which can contribute to spider veins & varicose veins. High-fiber foods include fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains, nuts & seeds. Eating less salt can help with the swelling that comes with spider veins & varicose veins.

      - Wear elastic support stockings and avoid tight clothing that constricts your waist, groin, or legs.

      - avoid hot things. Hot showers & hot tubs (the heat will dilate blood vessels causing more redness)
      - try to get at least 7 - 8 hours of sleep each night (aids in the healing processes of the body)
      - try to cut down on stress (stress can magnify a multitude of conditions)

You can try increasing your omega 3 fatty acids by taking supplements such as Evening Primrose Oil, fish oils, etc… Ground Fennel seeds and Flax seeds, as well as Flax seed Oil supplements (omega 3’s) also act as anti-inflammatories.

Guinot has a cream called RED LOGIC which claims to neutralize the appearance of red blood vessels. I know there are other brands and products that may be similar.

      Hope this helps!

  2. QUESTION:
What is a collapsed vein? What are the causes, symptoms and treatment?
I would like to know what a collapsed vein is, what are the causes, the main symptoms and the treatments.

    • ANSWER:
A collapsed vein is pretty much what is says on the tin. It is a vein (a vessel which carries blood) which has lost the tension in it's walls and has collapsed- (or if you imagine veins as tunnels- a cave in). In itself it is not harmful at all as there are always other veins to pick up the slack from the collapsed vein.

It is usually caused by trauma- most commonly repeated injections. So is common in long stay hospital patients who are getting several cannulas put in their veins over weeks and weeks. It is typically little old ladies with very thin and weak veins who are most susceptable to having them collapse though it can occur in anyone that gets needles in them frequent enough!

Another cause is peripheral vascular disease. This would be varicose veins in the leg- where there are valve defects within the veins, the reduced blood flow and increased pressure in the veins will cause them to distend and may make them collapse. Varicose veins are typically unsightly and itchy.

There are usually no symptoms of a collapsed vein but it depends where it is and how big it is. - there might be a bit of pain, or a bruise around the site of the problem and a bit of itching.

They usually dont need any treatment other than avoiding sticking needles in them for a few weeks after the collapse. Veins naturally heal themselves. For vascular disease the best venous treatments involve compression stockings, leg elevation and fluid management. There are a few surgeries for venous disease such as placing stents but this would only be in very severe disease and is quite uncommon for veins to get very bad.

  3. QUESTION:
Anyone know anyone who had varicose vein treatment?
I'm so depressed. I'm almost 23 and I just saw my varicose veins getting worse. I haven't had kids yet and I'm at a healthy weight, but I'm doomed by genetics. I feel so ugly. I never really see other people's veins too much, but I'm wondering if they just cover up their legs year-round and at the beach?

    • ANSWER:
I end up with very painful and visible varicose veins in my leg when i'm pregnant. This is my 6th pregnancy and the pain in my right leg/knee was so extreme that I had to find some kind of solution. If you have red or hot spots on your leg then you should probably go see a doctor to rule out blood clots. If not, then you can treat varicose veins naturally. Support stocking (about ) are supposed to help but they obviously won't cure the problem. I was fortunate to find an herb Butcher's Broom and I noticed improvement in my pain level within about an hour of taking the supplement! It has been about 2 1/2 weeks now that I have been using it and my veins are healing! The ugly spider veins and huge bulging blue veins are disappearing! I do not have ANY pain in my leg or knee unless I miss taking the herb. I purchased a product called Sanhelios Circu Caps Higher Dose. My doctor says it is safe for me during pregnancy. I have read that you need to be careful with it if your blood pressure is elevated though.

  4. QUESTION:
What cream/ointment is effective for varicose veins and can be purchased in a local drugstore?
Can be purchased in the Philippine drug store.

    • ANSWER:
Varicose veins are sign of a deficiency in bioflavonoids. Bioflavonoids are naturally occurring water-soluble plant substances that give fruits and vegetables their distinctive colours. Plus, they are powerful antioxidants in their own right. They are most commonly found with Vitamin C in foods, and they enhance vitamin C's antioxidant capacity and are necessary for its absorption and utilisation. Bioflavonoids include the brightly coloured substances citrin, rutin, anthocyanidins, quercetin, proanthocyanidins, tangeritin, hesperidin, flavones and flavonals.

Bioflavonoids help keep your skin supple and elastic by assisting vitamin C in its role of amking and preserving collagen, They are also an absolute must for healthy blood vessels. The bioflavonoids work by strengthening blood vessel walls and preventing and healing capillary breakage, which aids circulation and prevents haemorrhaging and ruptures in the skin. Bioflavonoids also help to tone small broken capillaries and varicose veins. They also regulate capillary permeability, and act as powerful antioxidants that protect cells and blood vessels from damage.

Other deficiency symptoms you may have are bruising, spongy gums, fragile capillaries, wrinkles, sagging skin, premature ageing, poor immunity and slow healing.

Best natural sources for bioflavonoids are orange, lemon and lime and tangerine peels. You know, the pith, the white part underneath the rind ?? That's full of bioflavonoids.

      Hope this helps.

  5. QUESTION:
Why are my varicose veins popping?
I've had varicose veins since my teens, they've never been an issue, just something I ignore, but recently I got cut near a web of veins, that was 3 months ago the wound healed but now I'm noticing my veins near the scar look like they've popped or burst internally, the day I noticed it I had some aching on my scar, so naturally I shifted my weight and checked it out. My job does involve standing a lot but what would cause a vein to do this?

"An Apple A Day..." - Cider Vinegar Health Benefitstopic posted Fri, October 13, 2006 - 12:18 PM by Craig

Many people are now convinced—Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV), that wonderful “old-timers” home remedy, cures more ailments than any other folk remedy and has been highly regarded throughout history. In 400 B.C. the great Hippocrates, Father of Medicine, used it for its amazing health qualities.

The reported cures from drinking Apple Cider Vinegar are numerous and include: allergies (including pet, food and environmental), sinus infections, acne, high cholesterol, flu, chronic fatigue, Candida, acid reflux, sore throats, contact dermatitis, arthritis, gout, and even heart pain. Apple Cider Vinegar breaks down fat and is widely used to lose weight. It has also been reported that a daily dose of apple cider vinegar in water has soaring blood pressure under control in two weeks!

For centuries, the benefits from cider vinegar to fight infection, promote digestion, fighting osteoporosis, have been well known. One of the first goals on the way to great health is to restore the body's pH to the alkaline range. As nearly all chronic illnesses take place in a body that has become acidic due to the gradual depletion of its mineral reserves, it is logical to check on the body's acid/alkaline balance and to work towards maintaining it in the alkaline range. The state of the body's acid/alkaline balance can be easily measured by testing the urine using pH strips.

      INTERNAL BENEFITS:
. Rich in enzymes & potassium
. Naturally supports a healthy immune system
      . Helps control weight
      . Helps soothe dry throat
. Promotes healthy digestion & pH balance
. Helps remove body sludge & toxins

ACV is also a natural antibiotic germ fighter, fights E. coli and other bacteria. It is an excellent remedy for food poisoning and helpful in digestive upsets. ACV helps control and normalize weight and improve digestion. ACV helps relieve arthritis stiffness and rheumatism.

Use two teaspoons (2 t.) in a pint of water daily for yourself—or one teaspoon in the dog or cat’s drinking water—as a healthy tonic. Drink a daily tonic of apple cider vinegar to help you keep the right pH balance in the urinary tract, since the proper acidity creates an inhospitable environment for bacteria and yeasts that cause these infections.

      EXTERNAL BENEFITS:
      . Helps maintain healthy skin
. Helps promote a youthful, healthy body
      . Soothes irritated skin
. Relieves muscle pain from exercise

ACV helps to maintain healthy skin, promote youthful, healthy bodies. Soothes pain of sunburn, the itch from bug bites, and the sting from plants. ACV helps prevent dandruff, itching scalp, baldness, and dry skin. ACV soothes tight aching joints, sore muscles. Apple cider vinegar also removes sebum and environmental and product buildup on the hair shaft.

COMBINE WITH NATURAL BEE HONEY TO:
      . Relax the nervous system
      . Promote deep sleep
      . Relieve rheumatism
      . Relieve arthritis
. Relieve bone and muscle pain and soreness
      . Relieve heart ailments
      . Relieve stress
      . Relieve insomnia

Mix organic apple cider with pure raw honey and drink at night before going to bed. Great for calming nerves, promoting relaxation and relief of bone related ailments. Adjust the amount of vinegar and honey for comfort and taste. See my recommended recipe here:

      RECIPE:
250 mL (8 oz) Purified Water (warm enough to melt honey)
1 to 2 teaspoons Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (Organic recommended)
1 to 2 teaspoons Honey (Local, raw, non-GMO recommended)

(Honey comes from flowers and has a very light energy. I recommend honey from flowers that are known to provide support for heart and lungs. Use local honey to help provide relief from allergies and build immunity.)

Apple Cider Vinegar is proving very beneficial to people and animals with arthritis because it breaks down calcium deposits in the joints while re-mineralizing the bones. It has shown to be equally beneficial to dogs with hip dysplasia. ACV is also effective for urinary tract infections, and it lowers high blood pressure. In animals, it is helpful in skin and coat problems and in replacing potassium depletion. (Cranberry juice is also a well-known home remedy for urinary tract infections. It prevents bacteria from attaching to the walls of the urinary tract.)

A new University of California-Davis Medical Center study shows that daily consumption of 12 ounces of apple cider or apple juice can reduce the risk of heart disease. And the benefits don’t stop there. A recent Cornell University study found that the antioxidants in apples also inhibit the growth of certain types of cancer cells.

ACV has been found to protect arteries from harmful buildup of plaque. Many heart attacks are caused by high amounts of fats and cholesterol in your blood. The fiber in ACV helps to absorb fats and cholesterol by expelling them from the body as waste materials.

ACV is used to promote the health of veins and capillaries; it is also useful in assisting in the health of the heart. The potassium found in apple cider vinegar is also beneficial to the heart.

The dietary fiber in ACV is beneficial in controlling glucose levels in the blood. Minerals like manganese, calcium, magnesium, silicon and iron develop bone mass and make them stronger. It is also a rich source of amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

ACV boosts the immune system and acts as a natural antiseptic and anti-biotic. Apples contain Vitamin C and flavonoids, which helps with wound healing and in reducing the severity of colds and flu symptoms. Apple cider also has acetic acid, plus ion-futynic lactic and propionic acids. It is the richest source of amino acids known.

Apple cider cannot cure cancer, but it is valuable to have around to help fight free radicals in the body. Beta-carotene, found in apple cider vinegar, is a powerful antioxidant, which helps to neutralize the free radicals formed in the body through oxidation. To prevent these free radicals, and to keep them in check, we need antioxidants to rid our body of these potentially dangerous compounds. Left alone, free radicals have the run of our bodies; they damage cells, which leads to cellular degeneration. The pectin in apple cider vinegar adds fiber to the diet, which helps prevent cancer, especially colon cancer. Fiber binds with certain cancer-causing compounds in the colon, and speeds up their elimination from the system.

      VITAMINS IN APPLE CIDER VINEGAR:
      . Vitamin C
      . Vitamin E
      . Vitamin A
      . Vitamin B1
      . Vitamin B2
      . Vitamin B6
      . Pro-vitamin beta-carotene
      . Vitamin P

MINERALS & TRACE ELEMENTS IN APPLE CIDER VINEGAR:
      . Potassium
      . Calcium
      . Magnesium
      . Phosphorous
      . Chlorine
      . Sodium

Eliminate junk food from the diet. Adopt a simple and nourishing diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. Fried, fatty foods and animal fats should be avoided if possible and replaced with beans, peas, legumes and soy. Eating junk food can cause waste matter to accumulate in the system, causing spider veins, varicose veins and a variety of other health conditions.

      2

  9. QUESTION:
Urgernt! Please, help!!!! Varicous Vein Removal Surgery,?
Hi, I have a surgery to remove varicous veins on my leg scheduled in two weeks, and I desperately need some advice. Anyone, who has had the same surgery or knows anything about it, please, respond:
    I need to know:
How lond does the surgery usually take?
Do they usually release you back home the same day?
How does the bandage changing process work? Who is supposed to to do it? You, or your doctor?
How long is the recovery period? When can you fully function again?
How many check-up visits with the doctor did you have after the surgery. Did they at least attempt to observe you, or did they just send you home and never saw you again?
    How much pain?
    etc.
P.S.: I am from Europe, and while in Europe similar surgery is considered very serious and they keep you in the hospital for at least 10 days, in USA they, apparently, send you home the same day and don't even bother to check on you afterwards. I need to know,if this is the way the surgery is conducted all the time here.

    • ANSWER:
      HI OP

I dont know anything about surgery, but I have some ideas to heal the veins naturally.

      Causes
The primary causes of varicose veins are nutritional deficiencies, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, smoking, regular standing for extended periods at a time, pregnancy, and hormonal changes at pregnancy or menopause.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Natural Cures

Aromatherapy: Add cypress oil to baths. Lavender, juniper, rosemary, and lemon essential oils can be massaged around the affected areas (do not massage the veins directly).

Diet: Eat an organic, whole foods diet that emphasizes fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, as well as plenty of pure, filtered water. The following foods can be especially helpful: fresh organic berries and cherries, organic citrus fruits, buckwheat, millet, garlic, and onions. Also eat plenty of fish and minimize your red meat intake. In addition, avoid unhealthy fats, refined carbohydrates, sugar, salt, alcohol, fried foods, processed and refined foods, and milk and dairy products.

Herbs: Combine equal parts of the tinctures hawthorn, ginkgo, prickly ash, and yarrow and take one teaspoon of this mixture three times a day. Topically, you can also apply a lotion made of ten parts distilled witch hazel and one part tincture of horse chestnut to help ease any discomfort. Cayenne pepper and ginger root are also recommended.

Homeopathy: Useful homeopathic remedies include Calc fluor., Hamamelis, Pulsatilla, Calc carb., and Carbo veg.

Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy is the application of water, ice, steam and hot and cold temperatures to maintain and restore health. Treatments include full body immersion, steam baths, saunas, sitz baths, colonic irrigation and the application of hot and/or cold compresses. Hydrotherapy is effective for treating a wide range of conditions and can easily be used in the home as part of a self-care program. Many Naturopathic Physicians, Physical Therapists and Day Spas use Hydrotherapy as part of treatment.

*Purified water is essential for any hydrotherapy treatment. Remedies for Treating Chlorinated Bath Water offers clear instructions and recommendations.

Juice Therapy: Excellent juicing remedies include the following combinations: carrot, celery, and parsley; carrot, spinach, and turnip; carrot, beet, and cucumber; carrot, celery, and spinach; and watercress.

Lifestyle: Wear support stockings and exercise regularly. Walking barefoot as much as possible is also excellent.

Nutritional Supplementation: Recommended nutrients include vitamin C with bioflavonoids, vitamin B complex, vitamin, B6, vitamin D3, vitamin E, calcium, folic acid, magnesium, lecithin, essential fatty acids, proteolytic enzymes (taken away from meals), and rutin.

      Alternative Professional Care
If your symptoms persist despite the above measures, seek the help of a qualified health professional. The following professional care therapies have all been shown to be useful for treating varicose veins: Acupressure, Acupuncture, Bodywork, Chelation Therapy, Detoxification Therapy, Energy Medicine (Light Beam Generator), Enzyme Therapy, Magnetic Field Therapy, Naturopathic Medicine, Oxygen Therapy, Prolotherapy, Reflexology, and Traditional Chinese Medicine

      Best of health to you

... Or, you know.. prevent more of them *sigh*..

I am 26 weeks pregnant today, and so far have no other stretch marks on my body other than what I had before pregnancy. But! I am getting spider veins showing up on my legs, ankles, and the sides of my belly!

please suggest some cure for external hammeriods,am 42 m.it hurts all day.living on pain killers?
I recently changed my diet and have got a problem with hammeriods.Am in agony the whole day, living on pain killers like disprin and nimulid. Can some suggest some cure

    • ANSWER:
well if you can't or won't go get them cut off, here are some suggestions...

Best results are often shown when one reverts to nature in foods and habits rather than treatments. There are a number of natural remedies and products available for treating hemorrhoids in the market today. Some are in the form of pills while others are creams or gels. These products are derived from naturally occurring herbs such as butcher’s broom, horse chestnut, bilberry and so on. These herbs work by improving circulation around the anal region, which reduces pain and itching and prevents the piles from reappearing. The mode of treatment usually varies depending upon the cause, severity, and duration of the disease.

Some of the leading drugs in the market include

ZenMED Cool Relief cream: A natural cream with a combination of astringent and anti-inflammatory herbal extracts, which cools and relieves hemorrhoid pain.

Many of these natural drugs be it pills, or lotions contain natural ingredients such as:
      Japanese Pagoda Tree (Sophora japonica)
Japanese pagoda tree extract is one of the best herbal supplements for naturally treating hemorrhoids. The extract from this tree has a very high success rate of curing hemorrhoidal symptoms. Since hemorrhoids are mainly caused due to enlarged blood vessels, applying the purified herbal extracts of Japanese pagoda tree helps to normalize the permeability of veins and capillaries, strengthen vein walls, and provide the necessary nutrients to maintain optimal vein health.

      Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum)
Horse Chestnut has been used to treat various circulation and vein conditions for many centuries now. Studies have shown that this extract has the ability to support vascular circulation, as well as strengthen connective tissues and vein tone.

      Butcher's broom (Ruscus aculeatus)
Butcher's broom is a long-standing natural treatment for hemorrhoids. A natural vasoconstrictor with anti-inflammatory properties, Butcher's broom also helps in strengthening and toning veins.

Vitamin E: Free radicals, the cancer causing hazardous waste of the body, can cause cancer. Vitamin E, which is a fat soluble, contains powerful biological antioxidants, which protect our cells from free radicals.

Zinc Oxide: One of the biggest problems of hemorrhoids is irritation, itching, pain and burning of the anal region. Applying Zinc Oxide forms a physical barrier on the skin and helps in relieving these symptoms.

L-Arginine: A leading cause of Hemorrhoids is thought to be the spasm of the anal sphincter (muscles in the anal region that push the stool out). L –Arginine treats hemorrhoids by reacting with our cells to make Nitric Oxide, which relaxes muscle spasms and brings relief from pain.

Oat Straw: Chronic hemorrhoids can be a very exhausting condition. Oat straw and the grain are mildly antidepressant; they help in raising energy levels and support over-stressed digestive system.

Plantain: Relieves itching and swelling caused by Hemorrhoids. Medicinally, plantain is astringent, demulcent, emollient, cooling, vulnerary, expectorant, antimicrobial, antiviral, antitoxin, and diuretic. It affects blood sugar, usually lowering it.

Cascara Sagrada: If the natural movement of the food inside the intestine becomes obstructed it can put pressure on the hemorrhoidal tissues. Herbs such as Cascara Sagrada help by speeding up bowel movements and making hemorrhoids less likely to re-develop. The compounds in cascara sagrada help to move food move.

Bilberry: Improves blood circulation throughout the body. By enhancing the blood flow to the vessels, the herb benefits people who are suffering from poor circulation in their extremities, painful varicose veins, and hemorrhoids.

Mullein: Soothes irritated skin and treats respiratory problems. Astringent (constricting) and soothing compounds in the leaves and flowers explain why this herb has gained a reputation for soothing Hemorrhoids.

Cayenne: Eases pain by providing diversionary discomfort and by depleting the body's supply of substance P, a chemical component of nerve cells that normally sends pain signals to the brain.

Red Sage: A traditional Chinese herb used for invigorating the circulation of blood and reducing stasis. Clinical studies have shown red sage to be effective in resisting bacteria, diminishing inflammation, improving the cardiovascular system considerably, protecting the liver, inhibiting tumors, and stabilizing the nervous system.

      Homeopathic treatment
The advantage of homeopathy is that it is a natural and non-invasive way of treatment. It is used to treat a wide range of illnesses and problems. You can find a licensed homeopathy physician in many countries of the world, including Europe, Asia and the US. There are many treatments available for hemorrhoids under homeopathy. One of the most commonly prescribed homeopathy medicines is Aesculus hippocastanum. Used for treating external hemorrhoids; this medicine is typically used for alleviating symptoms such as sore and aching piles, that cause bleeding and pain after a motion. People who need this medicine also complain of felling a lump inside their rectum and sharp needle like pains radiating from the rectum. If the pain is accompanied with diarrhea or constipation and a lot of flatulence then the homeopath will prescribe Collinsonia. If the pain in the anus is very intense and there is too much bleeding which continues many hours after passing stool then relief will be provided with Hamamelis. If the patient complains of chronic constipation, pain and itching around the anal region then they can find relief by using Nux Vomica. Burning hemorrhoids with soreness, cracks, and itching in the anal region can be relieved with Graphites.

Although homeopathy medicines are safe and non-toxic, they should be taken under the advice and diagnosis of a qualified Homoeopath.

      Ayurveda
Another natural treatment for piles is Ayurveda. Applying a mixture of half tea spoon turmeric and 1 teaspoon of ghee (clarified butter) at bedtime, three nights in a row, on external hemorrhoids can greatly reduce the swelling and pain. After a two-night break, apply the same mixture again for three consecutive nights. Repeating this pattern for a few days will bring down the pain. But turmeric can stain your clothes, so it is a good idea to wear old nightclothes to bed. The stains from the skin wash off in a few days.

    • ANSWER:
Copper is most concentrated in the liver, heart, kidneys, brain, bones, and muscles and is essential in the blood. Trace amounts are present in all body tissues. It increases iron assimilation. Iron and copper work together in the formation of hemoglobin and red blood cells. (Anemia can be a copper deficiency symptom).
Various enzyme reactions require copper. It influences protein metabolism and general healing, improves vitamin C oxidation, and is integral in the formation of RNA. Low or high copper levels can be found in those with mental and emotional problems. Copper helps rid the body of parasites, and is beneficial for graying and thinning hair.
Copper excess is not common because only a small percentage is assimilated, but toxicity problems can present serious disease states

  13. QUESTION:
I have varicose veins in my leg. Well it's one, kinda of a big one??? Please help?
I went to the Dr. Today and she said the best would be to do laser. Which of course is 00 per leg and not covered by OHIP. On the other hand she says I have some kind of leek which is causing this. I'm not sure about that. I use to be over weight and very heavy. During the time my job consitied of being on my knee alot. I think this is what caused it. She said I would need an opperation to fix the leek and then we could start doing some injections which is covered by OHIP. I ask if we could just do the injections now and see what happenes. She explaind and said yes we could. Is this the right thing? Did I make the right choice?

  14. QUESTION:
Help me relax about obession with blood clots!!!!?
I'm 21 and overweight, I have bad veins, varicose, spider and puffy ones. Anyway a long story made short I'm always examining every ache and pain to see what's wrong, I'm a huge Ocd-er, worrier, hypcondriac and I will look at the same area of my body 500 (no joke) times a day! My family is drove insane, I AM currently seeking mental health therapy, with limited success right now! I constant go to the doctors at least once or more a week, and this has been going on for 5 years, I've had to doctor shop a lot and I go to the ER a lot. I do not like this lifestyle. Lately I have been paranoid about blood clots and EVERYTHING is a blood clot, I've yelled at my family and told them I have a blood clot and u don't care. I don't want to lose my family so I need to get this under control----last night out of nowhere I got this shooting bad pain (something like I've never had before) in my right calf between my ankle and knee, kind of the side of my leg by all my veins and toward the back of my leg, I hurt to step while finally it let up some and then it only hurt occassionally but all night! I looked at it and I have a good size puffy spot not majorly but to me everything is major but a puffy spot on that area of my leg that's a little red and tender. Today it hurts a little when I bump it, really hurts and aches....I'm terrified of blood clots, my family says its probably a muscle just ignore the pain and don't look at it and whatever happens happens but that's hard for me cause ill make myself so worried I can't eat, talk or sleep. So I need help relaxing and learning what to do..I don't want to run to the doctor again because this spot is hard to see if not great light. My family says u can't see if u have a blood clot anyway..I'm ruining my life how do I just go on and think its a muscl. Does this sound like a blood clot or a muscle? Its tight and when I bump it it hurts..and its a little puffy....someone plz help me relax and think positive!

    • ANSWER:
You say that you are seeing a mental health professional, which is really great step towards helping you deal with some of your obsessions. Have you been put on any SSRI's (serotonin reuptake inhibitors)? They are commonly combined with therapy to maximize treatment benefits for individuals with OCD and/or anxiety-related disorders, like hypochondriasis. The best thing you can do for your body, instead of worrying over every possible ailment (which may or may not be something you can control) is to take care of it. Learn about healthy nutrition, learn to cook interesting meals, and learn about exercise. You can read scientific literature about anatomy and physiology (not about diseases and dysfunctions, but about the wonders of the human body, how it regulates and heals itself, and what it needs to stay healthy). The human body is amazingly resilient, so it is not necessary to worry about every ache or broken blood vessel. Unfortunately, when you do worry so much, and you exhaust both loved ones and medical resources. And you may alienate yourself from help should a day come when you might actually need it. It's great to be proactive, but be proactive in the right ways. The hypochondriasis may come from not feeling like you have control over your body or situation in life, so I suggest that you take control where it would do the most good. Like I said, nutrition, vitamins, exercise, etc. And take care of your spirit too. You are so much more than a collection of cells and organs, trying to maintain the status quo of physical health. What do you love to do? What makes you smile or challenges some of the gifts you naturally have? What do you want for your future? Try to focus more on the world around you and how you can affect it for the better, instead of becoming so consumed with the little details of your body. As a female who has also struggled over the years with some personal obsessions, I understand that that's easier said than done, but it's just one small goal at a time. Listen to music you love. Take hot bubble baths. Buy a puppy and take care of its needs. Spend more quality time with friends or your family. Read novels or poetry. Just surround yourself with positive energy, people, and activities, and give yourself permission to fall down once in a while, or be a little quirky. You are not alone, and if you give yourself a break, you will be just fine.

  15. QUESTION:
Why are my ankles like this?!?!?
my ankles are always swollen. lits VERYnoticeable and it looks awful. What could this be? Im not pregnant or fat at all and im only 19!! What are some things that could cause my ankles to swell?

    • ANSWER:
If you can push on the skin for a few seconds and it leaves a dimple, it could be edema. If this is the case, GO TO THE DOCTOR ASAP!! Edema can be a symptom of some serious illnesses.

      Edema
      (Also Called 'Swollen Legs')

      What is edema?

Edema is swelling that is caused by fluid trapped in your body’s tissues. Edema happens most often in the feet, ankles, and legs. Other parts of the body, such as the face and hands, can also be affected. Edema can happen to anyone.

      What causes edema?

      Edema has many possible causes.

      * Edema can occur as a result of gravity, especially from sitting or standing in one place for too long. Water naturally gets pulled down into your legs and feet.
      * It can happen from a weakening in the valves of the veins in the legs (a condition called venous insufficiency). This problem makes it hard for the veins to push blood back up to the heart, and leads to varicose veins and a build up of fluid in the legs.
      * Certain diseases — such as congestive heart failure and lung, liver, kidney, and thyroid diseases — can cause edema or make it worse.
      * Being pregnant can cause edema in the legs as the uterus puts pressure on the blood vessels in the lower trunk of the body.

In addition, too much salt from your diet can make edema worse.

What are the symptoms of edema?

Signs that you might have edema include:

      * The skin over the swollen area might look stretched and shiny.
      * Pushing in gently on the swollen area with your finger for about 10 to 15 seconds and then removing your finger will leave a dimple in the skin.

Your doctor will ask you questions, conduct a full exam, and might order tests to determine if you have edema.

      How is edema treated?

Edema can be temporary or permanent depending on its cause. Edema is treated according to the underlying condition causing it. For example, if edema is caused by either of the lung diseases emphysema or chronic bronchitis, quitting smoking would be advised if the patient smokes. Cutting down on excess alcohol intake, and monitoring and treating coronary artery disease would be advised for patients with chronic heart failure.

In addition, to treating the underlying diseases, there are a few other steps you can take to keep fluids from building up in your body.

      * Put a pillow under your legs when you are lying down. (Keep your legs elevated above the level of your heart.)
      * Wear support stockings. These stockings, which can be purchased at most drug stores, put pressure on your legs and keep fluids from collecting in your legs and ankles.
      * Do not sit or stand for long periods of time without moving.
      * Ask your doctor about limiting your salt intake.
      * Follow your doctor’s directions for taking any prescription drugs that might be prescribed. Your doctor might want you to take a diuretic (commonly called a "water pill"), which helps rid your body of excess fluid.

      Other important tips:

      * Protect any swollen areas from additional pressure, injury, and extreme temperatures. Injury to the skin over swollen areas takes longer to heal and is more likely to become infected.
      * Call your doctor immediately if you experience any pain, redness, or heat in a swollen area; have an open sore; or experience shortness of breath or swelling of only one limb.

  16. QUESTION:
is blood on toilet paper serious?
    Please only serious answers.

Last month I had to take medication for an un-related issue that made constipated. Being constipated naturally meant straining a little more, and I think it gave me a small hemmoroid or anal fissure because it would cause bright red blood on the toilet paper.

Anyway; when I finished the medication the constipation went away in like 1 day. Which is great...

What I'm worried about is 3 weeks later I still noticed some bright red blood on the tissue paper, maybe even a drop or 2 in the bowl.

It doesnt hurt to go anymore, especially since Im done with that constipating meds, and Im back to being regular, but its been 3 weeks, shouldnt I have healed by now?

Is there anything I can do?

    To re-cap;
-I dont have black stool. (I read that black indicates a more serious internal bleeding.)
-Im a 26 year old male.
-It doesnt hurt to go, I no longer have to strain I just notice the blood.
-I dont bleed all the time or anything, just during a bowel movement. I'd say for every other bowel movement, I will see bright red blood on the tissue.

    Any help/input appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
Kevin - You've done a good job of analyzing the cause of your bleeding. There's an over 99% chance of your having a bleeding hemorrhoid which could be located in the area of the anal opening - either external, on the rim, or just internal. Hemorrhoids are enlarged (varicose) type veins often with a very thin skin covering which can easily be rubbed open while you use toilet paper. A much smaller but real possibility is a fissure which should be examined by your doctor. Do NOT worry about a cancer but DO visit your doctor in the coming month for an accurate disgnosis and plan. Meanwhile, avoid constipation, wipe gently, and consider buying and using some over-the-counter Preparation H rectal suppositories.

  17. QUESTION:
Guys my Hemorroids are killing me! HELP!!!!!!!!?
    Hey guys,
I need help on how to control pain, my Hemorroids are killiing me. It's burning so bad, I can't even sleep or sit down or do anything. It all suddend started last night, never happened before. Please help.....
    Thanks in advance.....

    • ANSWER:
Go get some witch hazel and some nice soft cotton pads, or some Hemorrhoidal pads. Soak the cotton pad in witch hazel, or get a hemorrhoidal pad and apply it to the affected area. Store the jar or the witch hazel in the fridge, as it feels sooo much better nice and cold. You can also soak your posterier in a cool bath with witch hazel added in.
Make sure you are not currently constipated. If that is a problem at the moment, you need to find a very gently laxative or stool softener to help things along. Don't get anything radical, because if it's too harsh you can get diarhea. Diarhea is not your friend, believe me.
So long as you are in the uncomfortable zone, clean the area with warm water, and baby wipes, gently. Dry paper will be extremely painful, and can cause the tissues to bleed if they aren't already. Keep a hemerrhoidal pad applied as often as you can, the witch hazel won't burn and it will help shrink and sooth the irritated areas. Hemorrhoids are really varicose veins of the lower colon, engorged with blood from the strain to pass stools. If they distend past the sphincter muscle, they can break and bleed quite a bit. If you have this problem you need to visit the doctor as soon as possible. He can push the distended vein back where it belongs, and will supply you with some suppositories to help soothe and control your pain a bit better. If you get the suppositories, store those in the frig too- cold feels much better.
That all aside, you need to address the causes. You need to eat your veggies, more of what grandma called roughage- oatmeal, whole grains, wheat bread, muesli, etc. The whole apple, skin and all. Add whatever foods naturally move through you- prunes, raisins, and the like are the usual suggestions. Drink lots of liquid, not beer or wine, but water and juice. The idea is to keep things moving without the need to strain for a bowel movement. Lay off the white bread, noodles and cut way back on the meat.
For immediate comfort, soak your tush. Try to avoid sitting for prolonged periods of time, and don't strain at all on the toilet. Use the over the counter pads and creams, and if need be go see the doctor. And change your dietary habits. If you think you are in pain now, you don't want to know what it feels like to have them surgically treated. That's painful and ugly. And if you still don't change the habits, they will come back again. So, soak your tush, use the medications for comfort, eat your veggies, and put some reading material in the little room to relax with. With luck, you can be back sitting comfy in a few days time, and if you make the necessary changes, you can heal them up in a few months more. Keep up the changes and they won't come back.

  18. QUESTION:
wanna losse weight?? tips here :))?
ok well you can try the raw food diet.
    read this ...
    :))
What is the Raw Food Diet?
The raw food diet is a diet based on unprocessed and uncooked plant foods, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, grains, beans, nuts, dried fruit, and seaweed.

Heating food above 116 degrees F is believed to destroy enzymes in food that can assist in the digestion and absorption of food. Cooking is also thought to diminish the nutritional value and "life force" of food.

Typically, at least 75% of the diet must be living or raw.

What are the Benefits of the Raw Food Diet?
Proponents of the raw food diet believe it has numerous health benefits, including:
    Increased energy

    Improved skin appearance

    Better digestion

    Weight loss

    Reduced risk of heart disease
The raw food diet contains fewer trans fats and saturated fat than the typical Western diet. It is also low in sodium and high in potassium, magnesium, folate, fiber and health-promoting plant chemicals called phytochemicals.

These properties are associated with a reduced risk of diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. For example, a study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that consumption of a raw food diet lowered plasma total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations.

What are the Guidelines of the Raw Food Diet?
    1. What can I eat?

Unprocessed, preferably organic, whole foods such as:
    Fresh fruits and vegetables

    Nuts

    Seeds

    Beans

    Grains

    Legumes

    Dried fruit

    Seaweed

    Unprocessed organic or natural foods

    Freshly juiced fruit and vegetables

    Purified water

    Young coconut milk
At least 75% of food consumed should not be heated over 116 degrees F.

    2. What cooking techniques are used?

Specific cooking techniques make foods more digestible and add variety to the diet, including:
    Sprouting seeds, grains, and beans

    Juicing fruit and vegetables

    Soaking nuts and dried fruit

    Blending

    Dehydrating food
    3. What equipment can I use?
A dehydrator, a piece of equipment that blows air through food at a temperature of less than 116 degrees F.

A good-quality juice extractor for juicing fruit and vegetables

A blender, food processor, or chopper to save time

Large glass containers to soak and sprout seeds, grains, and beans

Mason jars for storing sprouts and other food
    Side Effects

Some people experience a detoxification reaction when they start the raw food diet, especially if their previous diet was rich in meat, sugar, and caffeine. Mild headaches, nausea, and cravings can occur but usually last for several days.

    Precautions
The raw food diet may not be appropriate for certain people, such as:
    Children

    Pregnant or nursing women

    People with anemia

People at risk for osteoporosis - A Washington University study found that people following a raw food diet had lower bone mass. Bone turnover rates, however, were similar to the group that ate a standard American diet.
Considerable time, energy, and commitment is needed to be healthy on the raw food diet. Many of the foods are made from scratch. Some ingredients may be hard to find, such as Rejuvelac (the fermented liquid drained from sprouted grains), sprouted flour, date sugar, young coconut milk, carob powder and Celtic sea salt.

People must be aware that certain nutritional deficiencies can occur on the raw food diet, including:
    Calcium

    Iron

B12 – The Journal of Nutrition study found that a raw food diet increased levels of homocysteine due to vitamin B-12 deficiency.

    Protein

    Calories
Critics of the raw food diet say while it’s true that some enzymes are inactivated when food is heated, it doesn’t matter because the body uses its own enzymes for digestion. In addition, cooking makes certain phytochemicals easier to absorb, such as beta-carotene in carrots.

Another critique is that the human body has changed in response to eating cooked foods. Some of these changes are that are jaws and teeth have become smaller, our stomachs have shrunk, and our small intestines have grown longer, lengthening the digestive surface area.

According to other alternative diet theories, such as macrobiotics, Ayurveda, and traditional Chinese medicine, a raw-only diet may not be appropriate for people living in colder climates or for people with certain constitutional types.

BENEFITS FOR YOUR DOGS (AND OTHER PETS):
Every home with dogs should have Apple Cider Vinegar. It has multiple uses for dogs, including: alleviating allergies and arthritis, and establishing correct pH balance of the system.

Added to your pet's drinking water, ACV has shown to maintain the acid/alkaline balance of the digestive tract. To find your dog's pH level, get some pH strips at your local drugstore. First thing in the morning test your dog's urine. If the strip reads from 6.5 - 7.0, then your dog's system is what it should be. If the pH is higher, then the system is too alkaline, and ACV can help to establish a correct pH balance.
